We arrived to Guadalajara in one piece in a five hour flight from Las Vegas! The person who picked us up from the the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara was wonderful, and during the drive from the airport, we all saw some of the amazing architecture of buildings and the bridges of the roadways! Once we arrived at our hostess' house, we became settled and then went to a little restaurant called Las Vias. Las Vias sells tortas, which are like a sandwich, but have salsa, chile, and have ay kind of meat you wish! We then picked up a few supply from the pharmacy near our hostess' house, and then rested from the flight the rest of the day.
Our first day of school was very busy and very informative. We have classes from 9:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, and yes, we do have homework ("tarea" en espanol). Our instructors are very helpful and passionate about their subject. In fact, one professor is allowing us to show up to class one hour early, so we may receive extra help if need be. They do speak mainly Spanish, but also know how to communicate with us in a way that helps learn and understand them at the same time. We also have had help from one of my roommates who speaks Spanish It was difficult at times when I got a little frustrated at myself when I didn't understand all the words they were saying, but the only way I am going to learn Spanish is to keep trying to listen and converse. While it was busy, I got to observe the surroundings of the University, which is very full of plant life, statues around the campus. It reminds me a lot of UNLV in Las Vegas.
My thoughts of my stay, though it be only two days, is that I have already learned so much!. I do see a lot of what the articles I read talked about when it came down to gender roles and religions of Mexico. I will be tired from all the homework and readings I must do, but I am looking forward to the next lessons of these courses. I will be posting pictures of the items I mention in this blog, so feel free to take a look! Thanks so much and talk to you soon!

On the plane to Phoniex! These are my awesome roomates! From the left, Brenda, myself, and Michelle.
One of many roadsigns in Guadalajara.
A few pictures of the buildings architecture.
A couple pictures of interesting road structures. I am not sure if the yellow structure is a bridge, but the triangle-looking one is. This particular bridge we were told by my roomate, Brenda, lights up at night!
Pictures from the restaurant we ate at on our first day! The pink drink is horchata, just with a different color, and tasted similar to what I have tried in the U.S. My torta is also pictured below it. It was called "Pollo con Queso" (Chicken with cheese). The meal was very tasty and filling!
These are pictures from my time at the university today. I did not get any from the inside, but here is the sign for it! Below is just a quick look of all the homework that is due for my four classes that is due on Tuesday (Martes en espanol).
Glad to hear everything is going well so far. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures in learning!
