So, on day two of school, we learned even more material than yesterday. However, I feel like I am catching on, and while I may not be able to talk to the professors or my "host mom" (our hostess) very well, I am able to understand and say small phrases! One of my roommates and I go early to school before our grammar class to get extra help! I learned yesterday and today we will be taking field trips to be exposed more to the culture of Guadalajara, which I am very excited about! During our "Cultura" (Culture) class, we discussed Mariachi music and Seranatas. Seranatas is music that is sung by someone who wishes to sing for their loved one, usually a boy for a girl he likes. We discussed one in particular in where a poor man fell in love with a rich girl, and sang for her. The tragedy behind this song, is the different socioeconomic classes between these two people, creating an impossible love. The meaning is she reaches the heavens or is far above his reach because of her status as a wealthy person, therefore, there unable to be together. I personally like this song because while it is tragic in a way, it expresses love. Then, my roommates and I went in a little adventure around the area! The weather is muy bonita (very beautiful) but it is very humid. As I write, I can hear thunder outside. It is pretty loud but I love thunder storms, and it makes everything greener here in Guadalajara! In ending today's blog, I only have two pictures, but one is a drawing my Culture professor used to explain one of the Serenatas and the other is the logo to UAG! Thanks everyone! Adios!
