Hola!
This week is the beginning of the third week as well as our clinical classes to practice what we have learned in our theory classes. Wow, two weeks have flown by so fast! Today, I got to see what foreign country hospitals were like, and what is expected of us the next two weeks. The nursing practices here are very similar to that of the U.S, however some of their policies are different. For example, in the hospital where I am at, the nurses are able to pierce the ears of young female neonates. It is also interesting to know that the cost of keeping precautions is expensive so gloves are only readily available if there is an emergency or if a patient has a serious infection, along with the use of PPE. However, hand hygiene is stressed highly as it is in the U.S and enfermeras (nurses) scrub their hands well.
The unit I am in today, tomorrow, and possibly Friday is in the Maternity unit where the moms recover from giving birth. There was only one patient in a four patient bed. The whole hospital is on,y 27 beds which indicated how small it is. Also, there are residents who were tested this morning and asked questions about their patients similar to how were were tested about our patients during clinicals. Brought back a lot memories! It also amazed me how the doctors highly respect their nurses, and the relationship of having worked with them!
So I have no pictures again today, but I will be editing my previous post and posting the pictures from the weekend there. Wish me luck for my finals for my theory classes! Muchas gracias mi amigos y hasta manana!
Paula
